A Story About the Importance of Breathing and A Parent’s Asthma Guide for Children
The story, created by, Ayo Handy-Kendi, The Breath Sekou, was written and originally performed by her, because too many people take our breathing for granted, until they cannot Breathe. She wanted to share through storytelling, how our ability to breathe is serious and without breath, there is no life.
As a Certified Breathologist, she had the unfortunate experience of knowing a family who lost their sone, right before their eyes, who could not breathe due to an Asthma attack. Because she has several grandchildren, and two daughter-in-laws, who have Asthma, she especially developed the story, and then the book, to demonstrate that without breath, this can be fatal.
She included the "Asthma Guide" after sharing her story to countless numbers of youth and adolescents in Asthma assemblies as part of the D.C. Asthma Coalition and the non-profit, Breathe D.C..
She intends that this little book will make a big impact on the many people who have difficulties with breathing, who may develop a breathing disease, who may be seeking greater understanding of Asthma and the alternative as well as conventional treatments for this most common breathing disease.
